If your laptop battery dies while away from a power source, you can quickly end up stranded with a dead and useless machine. Computing mobility might be a frivolous "want" to the casual user, such as a music or movie enthusiast; however, students and professionals need adequate battery power in laptops for learning and work-related purposes. If you have Windows, you can monitor and be alerted to battery power levels, similar to dashboard functionality in modern automobiles.
Instructions

  1. Click on the icon for the battery by the system time on the taskbar. Select "More Options" from the pop-up menu.
  2. Click "Change Plan Settings" for the power plan currently in use, as indicated by the radio button.
  3. Click "Change Advanced Power Settings."
  4. Scroll down to find "Battery" in the dialog box. Click the plus sign "+" to expand it.
  5. Click the expand the subcategories under Battery. Decide on and select the options you prefer for monitoring. For example, select "On" under "Low Battery Notification."
  6. Click "Apply" and "OK" when all of the selections have been made.
